How Online Design and Technology Tutoring Works

Every DTBase session runs online over video call, so you can book a tutor from anywhere in the UK with no travel time and no minimum commitment. Lessons are delivered on a shared interactive whiteboard where your tutor can sketch, annotate exam questions and mark your answers live, just as they would sitting next to you.

What a typical hour looks like

What you'll need

A laptop or tablet, a stable internet connection, and a way to photograph or scan handwritten work so your tutor can mark it. Everything else, including resources, past papers and mark schemes, is provided.

Exam Boards and Levels We Cover

Our tutors work across all major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas, at both GCSE and A-Level. Every session is built around your specific specification and paper structure, so you are never spending time on content your board does not assess.

Want to see the material before you book? Our free revision notes, past papers and topic questions are all organised by exam board and level, and they are the same resources your tutor will work through with you.

NEA and Coursework Support

The Non-Exam Assessment is worth 50% of the marks at both GCSE and A-Level, and it is where students most often lose marks they could have kept, usually through folder structure and evidencing rather than the design work itself.

Tutors can help you choose and scope a viable project, structure your folder against the assessment criteria, and review sections before you submit them. We guide and give feedback on your own work; we do not produce any part of the NEA for you. You can browse real coursework examples to see the standard you are aiming for.

Safeguarding and DBS-Checked Tutors

Every DTBase tutor holds an enhanced DBS check. One of our tutors is also qualified in SEN teaching and has experience supporting neurodivergent students.

For students under 18, booking enquiries can be sent from a parent or guardian's email address, and we will correspond with the parent throughout. If you would like to know more about who we are before booking, you can read about DTBase or email us at designtechbase@gmail.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Design and Technology tutoring cost?
One-to-one D&T tutoring starts at £29 per hour and varies by tutor. Group sessions are priced per person per hour: £26 for a pair, £22 for a group of three, and £16 for a group of up to five. Pre-paying for a block of five sessions saves 10% off your rate.
What does a DTBase tutoring session include?
Every session is tailored to your current level, exam board, and goals. You will get access to interactive resources, past papers, mark schemes, and revision materials, with ongoing support between sessions. Our tutors focus on exam technique as well as subject knowledge, giving you the best chance of hitting your target grade.
Which exam boards do you cover?
Our tutors have experience with all major UK exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC. Every session is structured around your specific board and paper format so nothing is wasted.
Are your tutors DBS-checked?
Yes. Every DTBase tutor holds an enhanced DBS check. One of our tutors is also qualified in SEN teaching and has experience working with neurodivergent students. Booking enquiries for students under 18 can be sent from a parent or guardian's email address.
Do you help with NEA coursework?
Yes. The NEA is worth 50% of the marks at both GCSE and A-Level, and tutors can help you plan your project, structure your folder against the assessment criteria, and review sections before you submit. We guide and give feedback on your own work rather than producing any part of it for you.
Are sessions online or in person?
All DTBase tutoring is delivered online over video call using a shared interactive whiteboard, so you can book from anywhere in the UK with no travel time. You will need a laptop or tablet, a stable internet connection, and a way to photograph or scan handwritten work so your tutor can mark it.
Why choose a group session?
Group sessions are a great way to get expert tuition at a fraction of the cost. Sessions with two to five students are led by Will and cover the same structured content as 1-1 lessons. Students often find that hearing questions from peers helps reinforce their own understanding. Group sessions start from just £16 per person per hour.
Can I join a group session on my own?
You don't need to bring anyone. Tell us your exam board and level and we'll match you with other students working towards the same papers, then confirm a time once your group is ready. You get the same tutor and the same structured lessons as a 1-1 student, from £16 per person per hour, and you're welcome to book 1-1 sessions in the meantime.
Can I pre-pay for multiple sessions?
Yes. Pre-pay for a block of 5 sessions with any tutor and save 10% off your rate. Tick the bundle box on the booking form when you send your enquiry and we will confirm your discounted total. Bundle sessions do not expire, so you can spread them across a whole course.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
You can move or cancel a session free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice, as many times as you need. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, are charged at 50% of the session rate, because your tutor's time is reserved and cannot usually be filled at short notice. If your tutor ever has to cancel, you get an alternative time or a full refund for that session, whichever you prefer. Full details are in our tutoring terms.
How do I book a session?
Simply click the booking button on your preferred tutor's card, fill in a short form, and we will get back to you to arrange your first session. You can also email us directly at designtechbase@gmail.com.
What else can DTBase help with?
Alongside exam tuition, we can help with coursework guidance, university application support, and personal statement feedback for design and engineering programmes.
